(1) Where carriage is provided by several carriers and where it is incumbent on the last of them to collect, at delivery, the payments owing to the preceding carriers, the last carrier is to exercise the rights of the preceding carriers, particularly the lien. The lien of each preceding carrier will persist for as long as the lien of the last carrier is in force.
(2) If a preceding carrier is paid by a subsequent carrier, then the claim and the lien of the former devolves to the latter.
(3) Subsections (1) and (2) apply also to the claims and rights of any forwarder who has participated in performing the carriage.
