A party without domicile or habitual residence, seat or management in Germany must, on demand of the authority, name an authorised recipient in Germany within a reasonable period. Where the party fails to do so, a document addressed to the party is deemed to have been received on the seventh day after posting, and an electronically transmitted document on the fourth day after dispatch. This does not apply where it is established that the document did not reach the recipient, or reached the recipient at a later point. The party must be informed of the legal consequences of the failure to do so.
