Registers

(1) The Federal Statistical Office maintains, for the preparation and production of federal statistics and for evaluation purposes, a business register for statistical purposes (statistics register) under Regulation (EC) No 177/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 February 2008 establishing a common framework for business registers for statistical purposes and repealing Council Regulation (EEC) No 2186/93 (OJ L 61, 5.3.2008, p. 6), as amended from time to time, and under the Statistics Register Act. The statistical offices of the Länder participate in maintaining the statistics register and may use it insofar as necessary to perform their functions under this Act or another federal or Land statute.
(2) The Federal Statistical Office maintains, for the preparation and production of federal statistics and for evaluation purposes, an address register that contains, for every address, the postal code, the municipality designation, the street designation with house number, the geographic coordinates of the property, and a reference number. In addition, the following data may be stored in the address register: 1. the residential property characteristic, 2. the number of persons at the address, 3. the assignment of the address to small-area breakdowns, and 4. the types of social, educational, cultural, health or administrative facilities present at the address. The statistical offices of the Länder participate in maintaining the address register and may use it insofar as necessary to perform their functions under this Act or another federal or Land statute. For maintaining and operating the register, data from federal and Land statistics and from generally accessible sources may be used. For the data under sentence 2 numbers 1 to 3, previous states are deleted four years after the end of the calendar year in which the data was transmitted.
(3) To maintain the registers under subsections (1) and (2), the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy shall, from 1 November 2022, transmit annually to the Federal Statistical Office, by 1 November, the current data holding "georeferenced address data", where available.
