Part 2 · The BSI  ›  Chapter 1 · Tasks and Powers › Section 9

Processing of logging data of the Federation's communications technology

(1) To avert dangers to the Federation's communications technology and its components, including the technical infrastructures necessary for operating the Federation's communications technology, the BSI may process logging data arising from the operation of the Federation's communications technology, insofar as necessary for detecting, containing or eliminating disruptions, faults or security incidents in the Federation's communications technology, or attacks on the Federation's information technology, and insofar as secrecy-protection interests or predominant security interests of the bodies concerned do not preclude this.
(2) Federal administration entities are obliged to support the BSI in measures under subsection (1) and, in doing so, to ensure the BSI's access to internal logging data under subsection (1). For that purpose they may transmit the corresponding logging data to the BSI. Section 8(1), fifth sentence, (2) to (5), (9) and (10) applies accordingly. Section 7(7) applies accordingly to the obligation under the first sentence.
