(1) The leadership of the Federal Office for Information Security performs the tasks of the Federal Government's Coordinator for Information Security. Technical oversight of the BSI with regard to its role as Coordinator for Information Security lies with the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and State Modernisation.
(2) The Coordinator coordinates the operational information security management of the Federation. In consultation with the supreme federal authorities, the Coordinator develops and further develops programmes for ensuring the Federation's information security.
(3) On the basis of the information obtained through the BSI, the Coordinator maintains an overview of the state of information security in the federal administration. On this basis the Coordinator oversees the implementation of the programmes for ensuring the Federation's information security.
(4) The Coordinator supports the departments in implementing the requirements under this Act and works, together with the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and State Modernisation, in consultation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior, towards an appropriate relationship between the use of information technology and information security.
(5) To perform their tasks, the Coordinator has a direct right, twice yearly, of address to the competent committees of the German Bundestag on the subjects named in subsections (1) to (3).
(6) The Coordinator is involved in all legislative, regulatory and other important projects, insofar as they touch on questions of information security.
